The Newport Daily News, Eric Snyder, July 13, 2000: "These Twins Have Been Double Trouble for Opponents"

"Newport - - - Bob and Mike Bryan have been together on the tennis court since they sat in a ball basket and watched their parents give lessons. Actually, Bob and Mike Bryan have been together just about every second of their lives, save for the two minutes on April 29, 1978 between Mike’s birth and Bob’s birth."

"Oh, people have tried to separate them. The housing directors at Stanford University tried it when Bob and Mike were incoming freshmen in 1996. Mike lived on one side of campus, Bob on the other."

"Midway through the school year, Bob’s roommate was all alone. Bob had moved in with Mike - - - he was sleeping on the floor of Mike’s dorm room,"

"’They tried to separate us,’ Bob said. ‘They couldn’t do it.’"

"Heck, even the tennis gods have taken a shot at it. While Bob was advancing to the quarterfinals in mixed doubles at this year’s French Open, Mike entered a tournament with Stanford buddy Paul Goldstein. It was the first time either Bryan had played a doubles match with someone else. Bryan and Goldstein lost in the first round."

"’It’s a lot different,’ Mike said about playing with someone who doesn’t look exactly like him. ‘I just know what Bob’s going to do. I had to take the overheads because (Goldstein) is shorter than me. Bob loves his overheads.’"

". . . . . They are the top seeds in the doubles draw of the Miller Lite Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. They are currently 26th in the ATP Tour Team Race. The only discernible difference between the two is the fact that Bob is left-handed while Mike is right-handed."
