Tennis Magazine, Cindy Schmerler, November, 2001:
"Double Feature . . . . . The Reviews Are In: Bob and Mike Bryan are the Surprise Hit of the 2001 Season"

" Bob and Mike Bryan talk alike, walk alike, and bump chests alike. They share a golf-course villa, a Mercedes CLK 320 . . . . ."

"The Bryan Brothers also share one bank account, into which they’ve deposited more than a million dollars since turning pro in 1998. This year has been especially lucrative. To date they’ve pocketed $506,361 and won their first four pro doubles titles: Memphis, Queen’s, Newport, and Los Angeles. Add to that a semifinal showing at Wimbledon and a No. 5 ranking and you’ve got an impressive resume."

"The Bryans’ sudden success can be traced to a decision they made at the beginning of the year. It was then that the identical twins, 23, from Camarillo, Calif., opted to focus more of their efforts on doubles . . . . . ‘I do think we’ve sacrificed our singles a bit this year,’ says Bob, ‘but we’ve won four doubles titles! Just think - - - the Woodies won 61. If we can only win five a year for the next 12 years.’"

". . . . . it’s a safe bet that the boys will rack up many more titles and eventually be named to the U.S. Davis Cup squad."

"’The biggest strengths the Bryans have are their energy, their enthusiasm, and their athleticism,’ says U.S. Cup skipper Patrick McEnroe, ‘Bob has a bigger serve and Mike’s return is probably a little better, but they’re both at their best when they take control of the net. They play aggressive, in-your-face tennis, and because they’ve grown up together, they really know each other tendencies.’"

"’. . . . . We really are best friends.’ says Bob. ‘We pretty much think the same and react to different situations. We’re twins, after all. We have the same DNA.’"

"’. . . . . It’s good to have someone who’ll be with you forever,’ says Mike. "You’ll know he’s never going to leave your side."

That’s good news for the Bryans and bad news for the rest of the ATP.
