THE BRYAN BROS. BEAT GAMBILL-RODDICK IN THE FINALS OF LA
08.2001

Mike and Bob won their fourth doubles title of the year on Sunday before a large crowd of SoCal fans at the Mercedes Benz Cup, held at the UCLA Tennis Stadium. The twin brothers beat their two of their best friends on the tour, Jan Michael Gambill and Andy Roddick, 7-5, 7-6.

When awarding the Wateford Crystal and checks, Tournament Director Bob Kramer said, "This is the most well attended and exciting doubles final we have seen at this event in many years!"

The Bryans were very happy to win this title because Kramer had given them Wild Cards ever since their Senior Year in High School and they had never won a match there. When they finally won a match, they went on to win the tournament.

The Bryans, seeded number one after winning titles this year at Memphis, Queens, and Newport, beat Alex Kim-Cecil Mamiit, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round. In the quarters they defeated David Adams-Michael Llodra, 7-5, 6-3. In the semis they played one of their best matches of the year in eliminating Tommy Haas-Max Mirnyi, 6-4, 6-2.

Lots of Ventura County and SoCal fans came out to support the Bryan Brothers during their four matches and a big impromptu celebration BBQ was held at their parents home in Camarillo following the victory.
