MIKE AND BOB WIN THEIR FIRST TITLE IN MEMPHIS

After three years on the ATP Tour, Mike and Bob Bryan, 23, won their first big title at the Kroger-St. Jude at the beautiful Racquet Club of Memphis. In they finals they Stanford alums Alex O’Brien and Jonathan Stark, 6-3, 7-6.

The Bryans, the number four seeds, did not lose a set all week in blasting their way to the Championship. In the first round they dispatched Goran Ivanisevic-Andrea Gaudenzi, 7-6, 6-2 and in the quarters they beat the American Team of Jack Waite-Tommy Shimada, 6-4, 7-6. In a tough semi final the Bros. Advanced with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Tommy Haas and Glenn Weiner.

Bob commented, "It was especially gratifying to win here in Memphis because Tommy Buford and Mac Winker have given us Wild Cards in the past and we just love their tournament and all the nice Memphis fans who come out to support us."

Mike said, "And it was nice to play the final against a couple of players we have watched and looked up to for a long time. We remember watching and being inspired by Alex and Jon when they played for Stanford at the NCAA finals at Indian Wells back in 1990."

Previously the Bryans had won six Challenger Events and seven Future Events. The brothers took home $47,600 for their effort
